Supporting evidence for this pathway in Arabidopsis: This is a superpathway composed of one or more sub-pathways that may have different levels of evidence. All of its sub-pathways have been accepted for this species using SAVI v.1.0 [more info] Summary from MetaCyc: The polyamines (the most common of which are putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) are a group of positively charged organic polycations that are involved in many biological processes, including binding to nucleic acids, stabilizing membranes, and stimulating several enzymes . While it is clear that polyamines are essential for normal cell growth, we still do not fully understand their specific molecular functions in vivo . putrescine and spermidine are found in all life forms, and spermine is found mostly in eukaryotes. In plants, the biosynthesis of polyamines proceeds through N-carbamoylputrescine. The enzyme involved in reaction from N-carbamoylputrescine to putrescine has recently been described .
