Supporting evidence for this pathway in Arabidopsis: This pathway is on the list of Ubiquitous Plant Pathways, which includes pathways that are thought to be present in all or most land plants. [more info] Summary from MetaCyc: Triose phosphate, the product of photosynthetic carbon fixation, is transported from the chloroplast into the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm, it is transformed to hexose phosphate by enzymes of the gluconeogenesis pathway. These hexoses are used in sucrose biosynthesis in the cytoplasm. sucrose is thus the principal product of carbon fixation during photosynthesis. Sucrose is the form in which most fixed organic carbon is translocated from photosynthetic tissue to non-photosynthetic organs. It provides substrates for storage glycosides such as starch and fructans. Storage glycosides, including sucrose, are mobilized and utilized during seed germination and plant growth. The last step of sucrose biosynthesis involves the enzymatic reaction of either or . However, the latter is believed not to be important in vivo, as under most physiological conditions it appears to be involved in sucrose degradation, catalyzing a sucrose cleavage reaction |CITS: [plantbiochemistry97]| (see sucrose degradation III and sucrose degradation to ethanol and lactate (anaerobic)).
